An AI software development company for UK businesses that want to own what they build
We build custom AI software for companies across the UK, from London and Manchester to Birmingham and Edinburgh, and add AI to the systems you already run. Fixed price in GBP, hosted in your UK cloud account, and the code is yours.
What does an AI software development company in the UK build for you?
An AI software development company designs and builds software where AI does real work inside your business: reading documents, answering questions from your own data, drafting replies, updating records and running multi step processes. Vrisic does this for UK companies in two ways. We build new custom AI software around your process, or we add AI to the ERP, CRM and in house systems you already run. You pay a fixed price in GBP, the system runs in your own UK cloud account, and you own the code, data and documentation.

An AI software development company for UK businesses. Custom AI you own, priced in pounds, across most of the UK working day. Here is the problem. Per seat tools that do not fit the process. UK GDPR and the Data Act to respect. And long timelines and day rate surprises. Here is how it works. First, a free call during UK hours. Second, a fixed price in GBP, in writing. Third, weekly demos and shared progress. And finally, hosting in a UK region you own. What do you get? UK GDPR and IDTA transfer terms. Code and data stay in your account. Remote team in India, no UK office. Pilot or MVP £20,000 to £48,000. The easiest way to start is a $1,500 AI Pilot on your own data. You see a working version in ten business days, and the fee is credited to the full build. Book a free call, or message us on WhatsApp, at vrisic.com.
Why UK companies hire an AI software development company instead of buying another licence
Most UK firms already pay for plenty of software. The problem is the work that still falls between those tools.
A finance team in Birmingham keys supplier invoices into Sage by hand. A London law firm has fee earners hunting old matters for a clause they know exists. A Manchester ecommerce brand answers the same returns question 200 times a week. An Edinburgh investment firm copies figures from PDFs into spreadsheets. Each is slow, manual and costly, and none is solved by one more subscription.
Custom AI software fixes that at the source. We build a new application around the way your team works, or connect AI to the software you already use so documents are read, records updated and routine replies drafted without retyping. Our custom AI software development page covers the build route, and AI integration covers the upgrade route.
- Ownership. You pay once for the build. Code, prompts and documentation are assigned to you, with no per seat fees that grow every time you hire.
- Data control. The system runs in your own cloud account in a UK region, which makes your UK GDPR records, DPIA and client security questionnaires simpler.
- Fit. The software follows your process and approval steps, rather than asking your team to work around someone else’s product.
Custom software keeps running after launch, and that costs money: hosting and AI model usage at cost, plus optional support from £1,200 ($1,500) per month. For most systems that is 15% to 30% of the build cost per year.
Our remote model, honestly. Vrisic has no UK office, address or phone number. Our engineers are in India and work UK business hours, so you get same day answers, weekly demos and daytime releases, at prices below most London agencies. To compare this with local options first, read our guide to choosing an AI development company in the UK.
Custom AI software we build for UK businesses, by the problem it solves
We start from the business problem, not the model. These are the six UK companies bring us most often.
- 01
Back office work that is still typed by hand
Invoices, purchase orders and onboarding forms arrive as PDFs and emails, and someone keys them into Sage, Xero or Dynamics. We build document processing that reads each file, checks totals and VAT, and posts the result to your system, with a person reviewing only what the software flags.
Best for: Finance and operations teams processing hundreds of documents a week
- VAT, date and arithmetic checks
- Direct posting to your accounting system
- 02
Knowledge trapped in shared drives and old matters
Policies, contracts and past work sit across SharePoint, Google Drive and case systems, and staff lose hours finding them. We build private AI search that answers with a link to the exact paragraph and respects who may see what. Our enterprise RAG and AI search service explains how.
Best for: Law firms, consultancies, housing providers and engineering firms
- Answers with source citations
- Permissions mirrored from SharePoint
- 03
Customer questions that swamp your team
Order status, returns and appointment changes arrive by email, chat and phone. We build AI agents that answer from your live systems, take simple actions such as rebooking, and hand the rest to a named person with a summary. The chat or voice front end is one component; the value is in the connected systems.
Best for: Ecommerce brands, clinics, property managers and trades businesses
- Answers from your order or CRM data
- Clear handoff rules to staff
- 04
Processes that run across five different tools
Onboarding a client or scheduling a job often means touching a CRM, email, a spreadsheet, a portal and an accounting package. We build AI workflow automation that moves the work along, with approval gates wherever money, customers or compliance are involved.
Best for: Operations managers with repeatable, multi step processes
- Human approval on risky steps
- Audit trail of every action
- 05
Old systems the business cannot switch off
Many UK firms still run on a desktop app, an Access database or an ageing .NET system. Replacing it in one go is risky, so we modernise it module by module and add AI features while daily work carries on. See legacy system modernization with AI.
Best for: Established companies with a critical in house system
- No big bang switchover
- Tested data migration at each stage
- 06
A new AI product or client portal
Some UK companies want to sell something new: a client portal that answers from each client’s own file, or a SaaS product built around their expertise. We build the full application, including login, roles, billing and the AI at its core, and you own it outright.
Best for: Founders, professional services firms and software companies
- Data isolated per client
- Code in your repository from day one
AI software for the sectors that drive the UK economy
The engineering is similar across sectors. The regulator and the data are not.

UK GDPR, the 2025 data act and the rules your AI software must meet
The UK has no single AI Act, so AI software is governed by data protection law and sector regulators. Your DPO or legal adviser makes the final call.
UK GDPR and the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025
UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 apply to any AI that touches personal data. The Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 amended both, with most changes in force from 5 February 2026, including new Articles 22A to 22D on automated decisions and a complaints duty from 19 June 2026.
ICO guidance and your DPIA
The ICO’s guidance on AI and data protection expects a data protection impact assessment for most AI processing. We supply the technical inputs: data flows, model providers, regions and retention.
Transfers to our team in India
India is not on the ICO’s list of countries covered by UK adequacy regulations. If our engineers access personal data, we sign the IDTA or the UK Addendum with you and support your transfer risk assessment.
Data that stays in the UK
We deploy into your account in AWS Europe (London), Azure UK South or Google Cloud London. Where privacy demands it, open source models such as Llama or Mistral run inside that environment, so data never leaves it.
NHS DSPT and DTAC
Suppliers with access to NHS patient data or systems complete the Data Security and Protection Toolkit each year. Digital health products for the NHS are assessed against the DTAC, which NHS England refreshed in March 2026. We design for both without claiming certifications.
FCA expectations for financial firms
The FCA has said it does not plan extra rules for AI and applies existing ones, notably the Consumer Duty and the Senior Managers and Certification Regime. We provide evaluation results, audit logs and exit plans for your review.

Local agency, offshore body shop, SaaS tool or Vrisic: a fair comparison for UK buyers
Every option wins somewhere. It depends on how much you value local presence, ownership and price.
| London or regional UK agency | Offshore body shop | Off the shelf AI SaaS | Vrisic | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Meets you in person regularly | Yes | No | No | No |
| Works UK business hours | Yes | Often partly | Support hours vary | Yes |
| Fixed price for a defined scope | Sometimes | Usually day rates | Subscription | Yes |
| You own the code and IP | Check the contract | Check the contract | No | Yes |
| Runs in your own UK cloud account | Sometimes | Sometimes | No | Yes |
| Senior engineers do the build | Varies | Often junior staff | Not applicable | Yes |
| UK transfer paperwork needed | No | Yes | Depends on vendor | Yes |
| Best when | You need a supplier on site every week | You need extra hands managed by your own leads | A standard tool already fits your process | You want owned, custom AI at a fixed price |
If on site presence matters more than price, choose a local agency. For a wider shortlist of firms, see our review of the best AI software development companies, which includes a disclosure that Vrisic publishes it.
How to choose an AI software development company in the UK
Ask these of every supplier, including us. Vague answers here usually become expensive problems later.
- 1
Where is each engineer based, and who is the legal entity?
It decides whether you need an IDTA or UK Addendum, affects UK R&D tax relief on the work, and shows whether the team overlaps your hours.
- 2
Will the system run in our UK cloud account?
Your own AWS, Azure or Google Cloud account in a UK region keeps data under your control. Vendor hosting is fine for a pilot but needs an exit route.
- 3
Who owns the code, prompts and evaluation data?
The answer should be you, in the contract, with assignment on payment. Watch for platform fees or proprietary frameworks that make it costly to leave.
- 4
What will you give us for our DPIA?
Expect data flow diagrams, every subprocessor including model providers, hosting regions, retention periods and human review controls.
- 5
How will you measure whether the AI works?
Ask for an evaluation set built from your real examples and a pass mark agreed before the build. Trying a few prompts is not testing.
- 6
What will it cost to run each month?
Get separate figures for hosting, model usage and support, and a cost per request estimate before launch.
Questions we hear every week
Still unsure about something? Ask us on a call. We will give you a straight answer, even if it means we are not the right partner.
How much does custom AI software cost in the UK?
With Vrisic, a first version (MVP) typically costs £20,000 to £48,000 ($25,000 to $60,000) over 8 to 12 weeks, and a production platform £48,000 to £120,000 ($60,000 to $150,000) over 12 to 20 weeks. Adding AI to one existing system starts around £8,000 ($10,000). Typical ranges; you get one fixed price in writing after a free scoping call, with hosting and model usage at cost.
Which AI software development company in the UK builds software you own?
Check the contract for three things: IP assigned to you on payment, code in your own GitHub or GitLab organisation, and hosting in your own cloud account. Vrisic assigns all code, prompts, evaluation sets and documentation to you, deploys into your AWS, Azure or Google Cloud account and charges no per seat licence fees.
Is an offshore AI development team UK GDPR compliant?
It can be, with the right paperwork and design. India has no UK adequacy regulations, so if engineers there can access personal data, the UK company needs an International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum, plus a transfer risk assessment and an Article 28 processing contract. The safer design keeps live data in the UK and gives engineers redacted or synthetic data.
Can our data stay in the UK if we use an AI development company based abroad?
Yes. Your application, database, documents and logs can run entirely in a UK cloud region such as AWS Europe (London) or Azure UK South, inside your own account. Where privacy demands it, open source models such as Llama or Mistral run in that same environment so prompts never leave it. Any engineer access to live data is logged and covered by a transfer agreement.
Is Vrisic an AI development company in London?
No. Vrisic has no office in London or anywhere in the UK. We are a remote team based in India that works UK business hours, runs calls and weekly demos over video, and invoices in GBP. If you need a supplier who can be on site every week, a local agency is the better choice.
Do we need an AI consultancy in the UK before we build anything?
Usually not a long one. Most companies need a few weeks of focused work to pick the problem, check the data and agree a price, not a strategy programme. Our 10 day AI Pilot costs £1,200 ($1,500), runs on your own data and is fully credited against a build started within 60 days. Large firms with many competing ideas may still want a formal AI consultancy phase.
Can a UK business add AI to Sage, Xero or Dynamics 365 without replacing them?
Yes, and it is often the better first step. We connect AI to systems such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, HubSpot, Sage or Xero through their APIs, so documents get read, records updated and emails drafted without anyone retyping. The old system stays in place, and if it is too old for clean integration we modernise it step by step.
How does a remote AI team in India work with a UK company day to day?
We keep UK business hours, so answers come during your working day. Each week you get a live demo of working software and a written progress note. Urgent issues come by email or WhatsApp on +91 63777 67206, and releases are scheduled for UK daytime.
Which UK laws apply when AI software makes decisions about customers?
UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. Since 5 February 2026, Articles 22A to 22D allow more solely automated decisions but require safeguards: telling people about the decision, letting them make representations, offering human intervention and a way to contest it. Special category data such as health stays tightly restricted.
Can you build AI software for NHS organisations or private clinics in the UK?
Yes, with the right assurance. Suppliers with access to NHS patient data or systems complete the Data Security and Protection Toolkit, and digital health products sold to the NHS are assessed against the Digital Technology Assessment Criteria, updated by NHS England in March 2026. We design for both and support your DPIA, without claiming certifications we do not hold.
Can an FCA regulated firm use an outside AI developer?
Yes. The FCA has said it does not plan extra rules just for AI and expects firms to apply existing ones, especially the Consumer Duty and the Senior Managers and Certification Regime. In practice that means a named owner, evidence of good customer outcomes, clear outsourcing terms and an exit route, all of which we document.
Is custom AI software worth it for a small business in the UK?
It is when one process eats hours every week and no off the shelf tool fits. A single automated workflow typically costs £4,000 to £16,000 ($5,000 to $20,000) and pays back fastest where staff retype documents or chase the same emails. If a subscription tool already does the job, buy it; we will say so.
